La Liga president Tebas confirms Barcelona are ‘really close’ to financing first summer signing

La Liga president Javier Tebas has on Friday confirmed that Barcelona are on the verge of financing their first major signing of the summer transfer window.

The player in question? Nico Williams.

The name of wide-man Williams, of course, has long taken its place front and centre in the headlines in Catalunya’s capital.

Amid their ongoing search for reinforcements on the left flank, the Barcelona brass have identified the Spanish international as the ideal addition, owing to his differential characteristics.

Deco and co. are eager to see new head coach Hansi Flick trot out a front three of Nico, Lamine Yamal and Robert Lewandowski next season, a trident boasting all of the necessary characteristics to wreak havoc across opposing backlines.

And, if the latest word to have surfaced on Friday is anything to go by, it would appear that the Blaugrana are on the verge of securing their man.

Speaking during a media appearance this afternoon, La Liga president Javier Tebas was drawn on Barca’s active pursuit of Williams.

And the Spanish patron went on to confirm that, at any moment, the Camp Nou brass will have the required finances at their disposal to activate the release clause in the 22-year-old’s Athletic Club contract:

“Barça are really close to being able to afford Nico Williams’ release clause. They can pay those amounts if they are within the 1:1 standard… and it’s very close. It is a club that has close to a 1 billion turnover, so they can be in that line.”
