La Liga plan to organize pre-season game in India

Two La Liga teams are set to play a pre-season friendly in India in 2023, as reported by The Telegraph India.

This initiative will be taken with an eye on increasing and improving La Liga’s cooperation with the Indian Super League.

In quotes transcribed by The Telegraph India, Managing Director of La Liga India José Antonio Cachaza said, “Next year, having one pre-season game is a possibility and we’ll work towards it. It certainly is an important part of our strategy to bring more La Liga teams to India.”

Cachaza also emphasized on enhancing La Liga’s connection with the ever-growing enormous Indian fanbase for Spanish football.

“We’re celebrating our first five years in India and at the heart of our strategy is increasing our connection with the fans here. That’s what we’ll keep doing, and we’re looking to find new ways to keep getting our clubs and players closer to the Indian fans.”

If this initiative is to materialize, it would not be the first time a Spanish top-division team plays a pre-season friendly in India. In July 2018, Girona FC had played against ISL side Kerala Blasters in India, where the then-Primera side won 5-0.
