An insight into the jersey number set to be afforded to Kylian Mbappé upon the Frenchman’s arrival at Real Madrid this summer has today been forthcoming.
It is of course common knowledge that frontman Mbappé is all set to take his talents to Spain’s capital, with a view to next season.
As much comes with the 25-year-old having allowed his contract with Paris Saint-Germain to run down, to open the door to a free agent Real Madrid switch.
Negotiations between the two parties have been in full swing for several months now, with a final agreement understood to be just a matter of details away.
And yet, one matter which remains undefined comes in the form of Mbappé’s squad number at the Santiago Bernabéu.
The explosive attacker is understood to favour the no.10 shirt over any other, with Le Parisien having today pointed towards as much as being set to become available in the summer.
This comes with Los Blancos’ current 10, Luka Modrić, mere months away from the expiration of his contract.
The reality of the situation, however, is far less straightforward.
It is in fact looking increasingly likely that midfield icon Modrić will soon put pen to paper on an extension with Real Madrid, through the summer of 2025.
In this case, the incoming Mbappé would be forced to delay his inheritance of the 10 shirt for 12 months, unless a direct request is sent the way of Modrić, to give up his number in Carlo Ancelotti’s ranks.
