Real Madrid star Kylian Mbappé has on Monday spoken publicly for the first time regarding the fallout from yesterday’s Madrid Derby. This of course comes as chatter surrounding the matchup continues to dominate the media headlines across Spain.
José Mourinho’s Real made the short trip across Madrid on Sunday, to lock horns with Atlético in the respective clubs’ final fixture heading into the international break.
When all was said and done, it was hosts Atléti who emerged triumphant, thanking goals on the part of Alejandro Grimaldo and Jonathan David for a 2-1 win.
The visitors, however, were left nothing short of disillusioned with the standard of officiating across the 90 minutes, a fact which they made crystal clear in the game’s aftermath.
Real Madrid’s players did not speak to the media following the full-time whistle at the Metropolitano, such was the level of anger in the club’s dressing room.
But as alluded to above, 24 hours on, one of Los Blancos’ most high-profile stars has spoken out. Drawn on the derby day drama during an interview with Diario AS on Monday, Kylian Mbappé explained:
“I don’t think I’ve ever been a player who talks much about the referee. I’m not going to start now.
“I have my thoughts, but I keep them to myself. The referee is human; he makes mistakes, and those were mistakes, but I don’t want to get into that.”
