Karim Benzema withdraws from Real Madrid matchday squad

Karim Benzema has withdrawn from the Real Madrid squad to face Sevilla on Saturday night.

The Ballon d’Or winner was initially expected to miss the fixture after picking up a slight knock in training on Friday but was then included in Carlo Ancelotti’s squad.

Jorge Picon of Relevo reports on Saturday morning that Benzema has once again pulled out of the squad due to “muscle fatigue”.

Against Celtic in the Champions League, the France international suffered an injury that kept him sidelined for almost a month.

Benzema then returned to action after missing several games but is now expected to be ruled out for tonight’s La Liga clash against Jorge Sampaoli’s side.

Doubt for Champions League

It remains to be seen how long the 34-year-old will be sidelined for. According to COPE journalist Miguel Ángel Díaz, Benzema could also miss the Champions League tie with RB Leipzig on Tuesday.

He will present the Ballon d’Or at the Santiago Bernabéu tonight.
