Julen Lopetegui to remain in charge until Sevilla find a replacement

Sevilla suffered a 2-0 defeat to at the hands of Atlético Madrid at the Estadio Ramón Sánchez-Pizjuán last night.

After seven rounds of La Liga, Los Nervionenses are sitting 17th in the standings with only five points, just one point above the relegation zone.

According to Marca, his dismissal is imminent, but he will most likely be in charge of Sevilla until they find a suitable replacement. Yesterday evening it was communicated that the Andalucían side have approached Argentine coach Jorge Sampaoli, who has already managed the team between 2016 and 2017.

Unless they arrive at an agreement with his successor beforehand, it is believed that Lopetegui will manage the team against Borussia Dortmund on Wednesday in the Champions League.

Lopetegui has been in charge of Sevilla since 2019. In 2020 guided the club to their sixth Europa League title and last season they finished fourth in La Liga.
