Julen Lopetegui: “Atlético Madrid have a squad made to win the Champions League.”

Sevilla will face Atlético Madrid tomorrow in La Liga, with kick-off scheduled at 6.30pm local time.

In his pre-match press conference that appeared on Mundo Deportivo, Julen Lopetegui told journalists that he expects a difficult match:

“The team is excited to face a big team like Atlético Madrid, a team with a squad made to win the Champions League, with a coach who is beyond any doubt in terms of the influence he has had on the performance of his group.

“It is a team capable of taking on different roles and designs, sometimes with a backline of three, sometimes with a backline of four. They are very physical, very technical and adapt their tactics to each match,” he added.

The Sevilla coach played down the importance of his head-to-head statistics with Diego Simeone:

“I’m not looking at statistics. I haven’t beaten Simeone nor has he beaten me, it’s the players and the teams. Statistics are very fashionable, but you have to interpret them. Each match is different and they have nothing to do with the previous one.”
