Judge sends Dani Alves to prison for sexual assault

Spanish outlet Marca report that the investigating judge of Barcelona’s 15th examining magistrate’s court has ordered Brazilian international footballer Dani Alves, accused of sexually assaulting a woman in the bathrooms of a nightclub in Barcelona on the night of 30 December, to be remanded in prison without bail.

The judge has accepted the request of the Public Prosecutor’s Office and the private prosecution exercised by the complainant and has sent the footballer to prison.

The Mossos d’Esquadra arrested Alves after the former Barcelona defender gave a statement at a police station. The Brazil international is accused of an alleged sexual assault on a girl at the Sutton nightclub in Barcelona and gave his statement at the police station on Friday, after which he was imprisoned.

The Public Prosecutor’s Office has requested that Alves be remanded in custody without bail on a charge of sexual assault. The private prosecution, exercised by the complainant, has joined this proposal and the judge has accepted this proposal.
