Juanma Lillo set to become Pep Guardiola’s assistant at Manchester City

Pep Guardiola is expected to appoint Juanma Lillo as his new assistant at Manchester City, according to Marca.

The Spaniard has left his latest position as head coach of Qingdao Huanghai in China and is reportedly on his way to Manchester.

Guardiola worked under Lillo in his final year as a player with Dorados in Mexico and has always considered the 54-year-old as one of the greatest minds in the game. Lillo has previously coached at several clubs in Spain, including Mirandes, Real Sociedad, UD Salamanca, Real Oviedo, Tenerife, Real Zaragoza and Sevilla.

Xabi Alonso and Vincent Kompany were two of the candidates tipped to become Guardiola’s new right-hand man after Mikel Arteta left in December to take over at Arsenal.
