José Mourinho sends warning to Real Madrid stars

Real Madrid head coach José Mourinho has this weekend fired something of a warning shot the way of his players in Spain’s capital. This comes amid the assurance that the Portuguese will show no hesitation in dropping even the headline names from his matchday setup.

Real Madrid are of course primed to kick their campaign back into gear later today, in a La Liga meeting with Villarreal.

Los Blancos head into the matchup fresh off a hit-and-miss opening to the new campaign, culminating in a pair of defeats in seven in the league. Such inconsistency has seen the capital outfit fall a full six points off the pace of arch rivals Barcelona atop the table.

With the level of talent currently at Valdebebas certainly not in question, many have in turn been quick to call into question the attitude of Real Madrid’s players once more of late.

Los Merengues have long been accused of lacking the mental fortitude and sheer will to overthrow Hansi Flick’s dominant Barca outfit.

Speaking during an appearance in front of the media this weekend, though, José Mourinho moved to reassure the club’s supporters. Sending a clear warning to his players, the iconic tactician assured:

“I promise you, when a Real Madrid player stops behaving like a Real Madrid player… you will not even get a chance to boo him… And that’s because he won’t even get to sit on the bench.”
