Real Madrid head coach José Mourinho has launched a stern defence of his squad on Friday evening. This of course comes fresh off an outing to forget for all associated with Los Blancos.
Mourinho led his troops back into action a short time ago, making the trip to La Cartuja to lock horns with Manuel Pellegrini’s Real Betis. The visitors headed into proceedings brimming with confidence, fresh off three wins from three to open the new La Liga campaign.
When all was said and done in Seville, though, Real Madrid were brought crashing back down to earth with a thud.
Owing to a solitary strike on the part of summer signing Troy Parrott, it was hosts Betis who emerged on the right side of a 1-0 result on Friday.
Los Merengues were the architects of their own downfall, missing a whole host of glaring opportunities in front of goal, capped by Kylian Mbappé fluffing his lines from the penalty spot in injury time.
As alluded to above, though, post-match, José Mourinho was quick to throw his full backing behind his star-studded squad. Speaking to the media at La Cartuja, Real Madrid’s headmaster assured:
“I don’t blame my players for anything tonight. I’m very happy with them.
“I genuinely don’t know how we lost. We played so well. Very well. The players’ attitude was fantastic, and we did everything to win. Congrats to Betis, they won the lottery…”
