José Mourinho asks Real Madrid to rival Barcelona for key transfer target

Incoming Real Madrid head coach José Mourinho has requested the club’s board to battle arch rivals Barcelona for the signature of Bernardo Silva.

This comes with the Portuguese a long-time admirer of his fellow countryman’s talents.

Bernardo is of course set to be on the move this summer, after making the call not to renew his contract with Premier League giants Manchester City.

The aforementioned Barcelona have in turn been tipped as the clear favourites to beat out the stiff competition to the 31-year-old’s services.

As alluded to above, though, the Blaugrana could yet face even further competition, from an altogether familiar source…

As per a report from Mundo Deportivo, citing Diario AS:

‘José Mourinho has requested the signing of his compatriot for his next project at Real Madrid, should Florentino Pérez be re-elected as president.’

Bernardo, it is added, was previously offered to Los Blancos, only to be rebuffed by the club’s board. Mourinho’s imminent arrival at the Bernabéu, though, appears to have changed the situation.
