Joaquín: “These tears are the suppressed emotion of all these days.”

Real Betis captain Joaquín helped the Andalusian outfit lift their third Copa del Rey title in Seville on Saturday night.

The club’s number 17 came on in the 86th minute of the final against Valencia.

In a fantastic cup final, the 40-year-old went on to score a spot-kick as Betis won 5-4 in the penalty shootout.

Betis fan and left-back Juan Miranda netted the decisive fifth penalty to hand the club its first silverware in 17 years.

Speaking to TV3, Joaquín said: “These tears are the suppressed emotion of all these days, of seeing the people and how they supported us, knowing the responsibility of playing this type of game.

“It is normal for these tears to flow. Everyone deserves it. Penalties are a lottery. We’re so happy because we’re in Sevilla. I’m going to enjoy this… We’re Copa del Rey champions.”

“We dedicate this to all the people who support us… The staff, the coaches, the cooks, all the people who are not seen, for my daughters, my wife, my brothers, my parents, all the Béticos.”
