Joaquín: “I’m taking Diego Lainez to rehearse for when we lift the cup.”

Speaking to Cope after Real Betis progressed to the Copa del Rey final, Joaquín expressed his delight post-match.

“I’m already taking Diego Lainez to rehearse for when we lift the cup! What a beautiful thing. We’re going to enjoy it because we deserve it. On Sunday we have a difficult game to keep dreaming about the Champions League. I already won a cup with Betis and another with Valencia, and I played in a final with Fiorentina.”

When asked about the possibility of going out after the game to celebrate, the 40-year-old joked again, before getting emotional: “I’m not going out today, my wife has told me ‘I’ll wait for you’, so I’m going home… to change and go out! I want to see my wife and my girls who have suffered like all the Betis players and like me. What a joy this is.”

Joaquín, who turns 41 in July, will now hope to win his third Copa del Rey, having already done so with Betis in 2005 and Valencia in 2008.

Betis beat Rayo Vallecano 3-2 on aggregate and will play Valencia in the final on April 23.
