Joan Laporta on Spain’s recent form: “A large part of the credit has to go to Xavi.”

In an interview that appeared on Marca, Joan Laporta discussed Spain’s performance at the World Cup.

The Barcelona president believes that the club’s players are doing well in the Spanish national team:

“It is a source of pride for Barcelona to see how our players and the team are playing. The world is falling in love with some of these very talented players and most of them are from Barcelona. To see these players is a source of pride.”

Laporta was also asked whether Spain are favourites to win the World Cup:

“They are favourites to win the World Cup, but there are several favourites like Brazil and France, but Spain are among them. There are possibilities and let’s see how the team evolves.”

He believes that the success of Spain is down to the work done at Barcelona by Xavi:

“The coach [Xavi] is doing very well and that’s why we’re top of La Liga. And if the national team is doing well now, it’s a consequence of the good work being done at Barcelona. Luis Enrique has been very successful in putting together a team of players, most of whom play for Barcelona. A large part of the credit has to go to Xavi because he is making all of them play for Barcelona.”
