The Ousmane Dembélé contract saga at Barcelona is still ongoing. The Frenchman is now officially without a club and his representatives have been in talks with Barça over a new deal since late last year. There has, however, been no agreement reached.
Barça manager Xavi Hernández has always been in favour of the player staying at Camp Nou.
Recently, Barcelona presented Dembélé with a new offer. It could well be their last offer, given that the player is not close to joining any other clubs.
Speaking about the Frenchman’s situation, club president Joan Laporta said in quotes reported by Mundo Deportivo: “Dembélé is no longer a Barça player but the issue is economic. If he accepts our conditions, Dembélé will stay at Barça”.
While it is clear that the Catalan giants do want to keep him, they will not do so at any cost. An outcome of this saga is expected soon and as per Fabrizio Romano, the talks are progressing as well. The proposed deal is said to be until 2024 and Xavi is pushing for the player’s renewal.
