Joan Laporta: “Florentino accepted the defeat with sportsmanship.”

Last night Barcelona defeated Real Madrid 3-1 in the Supercopa de España final.

In an interview with Catalan radio station RAC1, which also appeared on Mundo Deportivo, Joan Laporta, the Blaugrana’s president, discussed the title win:

“It had to be won because it had to be a turning point. Yesterday we gave an exhibition, Xavi and the players. It is a team that is still under construction and I would ask Barcelona fans to continue to be patient and titles like this one will come. It is a title for all Barcelona fans for the patience they have had. Xavi deserves it above all. Being a coach is not easy.”

Joan Laporta was also asked about the conversation he had with Florentino Pérez after the match:

“Florentino accepted the defeat with sportsmanship and told me that we had played very well and that the spectacle that represents Barça-Madrid is important for football. This Supercopa has more value as it was played against Madrid and for how we won. Barça gave a recital.”

Barcelona play their next match on Thursday against Ceuta in the Copa del Rey.
