Ivan Rakitic: “I’m not a sack of potatoes.”

Speaking in an interview with Mundo Deportivo, Barcelona midfielder Ivan Rakitic said he wants to feel important at the Catalan club with his future yet to be decided.

Rakitic’s contract runs until 2021. The 32-year-old has been a key part of Barcelona’s success over the last decade since joining in 2014, however over the last couple of seasons, he has gradually become less of a regular in the starting XI.

I understand the situation, but I’m not a sack of potatoes that you can just do anything with. I want to be somewhere I feel wanted, respected and needed. If that’s here then I’ll be delighted, but if it’s somewhere else, I’ll be the one who decides where, not anyone else.

The Croat is still hungry to compete and feels he has plenty to offer at the top level of the game.

Wherever I go, it’s to win everything. First in training, then in matches and after that titles. That will never change. In my opinion, I’m at my best age. If I didn’t think I could compete, I would do things differently. But I feel better than ever and I can see myself competing at the highest level for the next three or four years.
