‘It’s not Xavi’ – Departing Sevilla boss Quique explains Barcelona’s ‘problem’

Comments laid out by departing Sevilla head coach Quique have turned heads across the Spanish football landscape.

As much comes after the Spaniard moved to provide his backing to Barcelona counterpart Xavi.

Like Quique, Xavi of course oversaw his final fixture in the dugout with his current employers on Sunday night, upon Sevilla welcoming Barcelona to Andalusia for the La Liga season finale.

When all was said and done, it was the latter who emerged on the right side of the result, owing to goals on the part of Robert Lewandowski, and Fermín López.

This saw Barca, despite all of their troubles behind the scenes, close out the campaign with an altogether respectable tally of 85 points in Spain’s top-flight.

In the face of as much, the aforementioned Quique, in turn, was post-match on Sunday asked for his take on what exactly the ‘problem’ is in Catalunya’s capital at this moment in time.

And, in his response, the former Watford boss defended the dismissed Xavi, in pointing towards an altogether different leading cause of concern for the Blaugrana at present:

“Barcelona’s problem is not Xavi. It’s Real Madrid.”
