Inter Miami close to signing Luis Suárez

Inter Miami are close to clinching a deal for former Barcelona and Atlético Madrid striker Luis Suárez on a one-year contract, report The Athletic.

The agreement will see Suárez link up with former Barcelona team-mates Lionel Messi, Sergio Busquets and Jordi Alba, who won four La Liga titles and a Champions League with the Blaugrana.

The move to the MLS side is set to bolster Tata Martino’s attacking department ahead of the 2024 MLS season.

Suárez’s latest stint was at Brazilian side Gremio, however, the 36-year-old now looks set for a move to the Florida-based club, where he can once again join forces with Messi and Co.

At Gremio, he scored 24 goals and provided 17 assists in 52 appearances (4,557 minutes). He has also struggled with a knee injury that requires constant medical attention.

“The truth is that the first steps I take in the morning are very painful,” Suarez told Uruguay’s 100% Deporte radio show on Monday “Anyone who sees me thinks it is impossible for me to play a game. My son asks me to play with him and I am not able to.”
