An update on the wellbeing of Athletic Club star Nico Williams has come to the fore online.
This comes, for those who may have missed it, after the Euro 2024 winner set alarm bells ringing across the Athletic fanbase on Thursday night.
Afforded a starting berth in the Basque outfit’s La Liga meeting with Leganés, Nico was forced into a premature departure from the action.
After being brought down by Valentin Rosier, the 22-year-old was left grounded, and in evident pain.
Hauled off a short time later, it came as little surprise when the name of his star winger was put to boss Ernesto Valverde post-match.
And Athletic’s headmaster went on to announce that Williams has suffered ‘a sprained ankle’.
The club themselves later released a statement, too, confirming:
‘Athletic Club winger Nico Williams has a contusion in his left ankle, an injury which meant he had to be substituted at half-time during Thursday evening’s LaLiga clash with CD Leganés.’
Though the extent of Nico’s ankle problem is yet to be revealed, the most concerning development came post-match at The Estadio Municipal de Butarque, when the Spanish international was spotted making use of a pair of crutches…
