Iñigo Martínez continues to train alone

Iñigo Martínez is unable to participate in Athletic Bilbao’s training sessions, report Mundo Deportivo.

The 31-year-old suffered a knee injury on the 30th of July in a pre-season friendly against Newcastle Untied. Since then, Martínez has not been able to join the team’s regular training sessions.

While he will definitely miss the match against Valencia, the club hope that the centre-back will recover in time for the game against Cádiz on the 29th of August.

Iñigo Martínez’s contract with Athletic Bilbao is set to expire in June 2023. However, he has shown no interest in renewing his deal.

Club president Jon Uriarte hopes to convince the Spain international to renew his contract:

“He has a lot of quality, he is very competitive, he brings a lot to the team, and that is why we are confident that, in addition to this season, we will have him with us for many more years.”
