Iñaki Williams set to equal Alfredo Di Stéfano’s consecutive games run

Iñaki Williams has the chance to equal Alfredo Di Stéfano’s consecutive appearance run for Athletic Club on Friday.

The striker will equal Real Madrid legend Alfredo Di Stéfano’s tally of 171 consecutive league games from 1953 to 1959 if he features against Huesca in the LaLiga meeting at San Mamés.

The 26-year-old forward hasn’t missed a league game since April 2016 in what is a remarkable run in modern-day football. On April 20, 2016, he came on for Iker Muniain against Atlético Madrid at San Mamés. Athletic, currently 13th in the LaLiga table, will be hoping Williams maintains his excellent record in order to propel them up the table in the new year.

The all-time record for consecutive matches in LaLiga is held by Real Sociedad’s Juan Antonio Larrañaga who, between 1986 and 1992, made 202 consecutive appearances.
