‘In a way only he can’ – Pep Guardiola singles one Real Madrid star out for special praise

Manchester City head coach Pep Guardiola moved to reiterate his appreciation for a headline member of the midfield ranks at Real Madrid on Tuesday night.

The player in question? Toni Kroos.

German international Kroos, of course, is fresh off playing his part in the Champions League quarter-final first-leg meeting between Real, and Man City.

The 34-year-old, as expected, featured from the off for the evening’s hosts in Madrid, controlling proceedings from the middle of the park with his trademark combination of poise, intelligence, and elite passing ability.

And as much did not go at all unnoticed on the part of the man in charge of Kroos’ opponents on Tuesday.

Speaking to the media post-match at the Santiago Bernabéu, Pep Guardiola was asked for his take on the performance put forth by Real’s engine room conductor.

And City’s headmaster, not for the first time, made use of the opportunity to reveal his admiration for Kroos’ talents:

“Toni Kroos? Oh Toni Kroos. He controls Real Madrid in a way that only Toni Kroos can.”
