İlkay Gündoğan responds to news of Xavi’s Barcelona dismissal

Barcelona star İlkay Gündoğan has on Friday taken to social media, to send a message of gratitude to head coach Xavi.

As much, of course, comes as the Spaniard prepares to bid farewell to his beloved Blaugrana.

The news which had long been in the pipeline was at last made official on Friday afternoon – that Xavi has been relieved of his duties on the touchline in Catalunya’s capital.

The 44-year-old will oversee his final outing this Sunday, against Sevilla, before being replaced by the incoming Hansi Flick.

News of Xavi’s impending exit has since been met by a wave of well wishes, as those of a Barcelona persuasion come to terms with another of the club’s most iconic-ever figures being treated with far less respect than he deserved.

And, a short time ago, such fans were joined in their farewell messages by a leading member of the Blaugrana’s squad.

Taking to his official social media platforms, İlkay Gündoğan unveiled the following post, thanking Xavi for all of his efforts across their solitary season together in Catalunya:

‘Gràcies, Xavi! Very grateful for having worked together this season – thank you for bringing me to @FCBarcelona last summer! I’m wishing you all the best for your future! #legendofthegame’
