İlkay Gündogan names Barcelona trio – including manager Xavi – as his football heroes

The latest public comments laid out by Barcelona star İlkay Gündogan are no doubt set to bring a collective smile to the faces of Blaugrana supporters the world over.

This comes with the German international having made use of the opportunity to reveal his appreciation for three of the most beloved players of the modern era in Catalunya’s capital.

Speaking in an interview with ESPN this week, Gündogan was drawn on a whole host of topics, as part of a quick-fire questions round.

And one such query centered on who the former Manchester City man considers to be his footballing ‘hero’.

Unable to decide on one, however, Gündogan pointed towards no fewer than three players, all of whom once lined out alongside one another in the middle of the park at the Camp Nou.

The trio in question? Andrés Iniesta, Sergio Busquets, and his current head coach at Barcelona – Xavi Hernández.

“There are a few but especially that midfield with Busquets, Xavi, Iniesta. Growing up, I just loved them,” the 33-year-old explained.
