Only four other players surpass Iker Muniain when it comes to appearances made in the league for Athletic Club, note Mundo Deportivo.
Last night Athletic Club suffered a 1-0 defeat at the hands of Celta Vigo in Galicia in the 19th round of La Liga. Despite being a match to forget for Athletic Club supporters, Muniain will certainly remember the milestone he reached with the Basque side.
The Athletic Club captain made his 400th appearance for Los Leones last night. He is only surpassed by José Ángel Iribar (466), Joseba Etxeberria (445), Txetxu Rojo (414) and Andoni Iraola (406).
Muniain’s contract at San Mamés is valid until June 2024 and he is not looking to leave Athletic Club any time soon. As he is only 30-years-old, he could realistically surpass the record held by Iribar in a few years’ time if he is able to remain fit in the next couple of seasons.
The Basque midfielder was part of the Athletic Club side that reached the Europa League final in 2012.
