Iago Aspas pushes for Spain call-up

Iago Aspas hopes that Spain’s coach Luis Enrique will call him up to the national team, report AS.

Iago Aspas was last called up to the national team in 2019. Since the last time he put on La Roja shirt 38 months ago, he has scored 51 goals for Celta Vigo.

With Luis Enrique preparing the list of players to count on for Spain’s Nations League games at the end of September and with the World Cup just around the corner, it would be very difficult to overlook the 35-year-old’s performance.

With 14 goals, Aspas is the Spanish striker with the most goals in 2022, which is three more than Borja Iglesias. Since May, he has scored 10 goals in his last 11 official games.

In his post-match interview against Cádiz, he said he would be open for a call-up, but he accepts that at the end of the day it is Enrique’s decision:

“The coach will have to take a note or not. Let’s hope, at least, to make things difficult for him for the next list.”
