Iago Aspas: “Of course it hurts that I’m not going.”

Iago Aspas was not called up for Spain’s upcoming Nations League fixtures against Switzerland and Portugal.

In an interview with radio network Cadena SER, which appeared on AS, he was asked whether it hurts being snubbed by Luis Enrique:

“Of course it hurts that I’m not going, I’m stubborn and I will not give up until the end. If I get onto the last list [before the World Cup], all the better, but I’m paid to play for Celta. However, I will do everything possible.”

However, he still hasn’t lost hope of playing again for Spain one day:

“Hope is the last thing you lose, but it’s true that I haven’t been called up for a while. I finished last season quite well and now I am continuously performing well in the league.”

Aspas believes that he wasn’t called up for footballing reasons:

“I have not had any problem with the coach and he has taken me to other call-ups. If not, he would have told me because the coach is very straight with you.”
