A headline member of the defensive ranks at La Liga giants Barcelona has on Sunday spoken out regarding his future with the club.
The player in question? Jules Koundé.
Stopper Koundé, for his part, is fresh off a season which saw him continue to play a pivotal role for Xavi’s Barcelona.
After a difficult first half of the term at right-back, the Frenchman grew into the role in hugely impressive fashion, establishing himself as one of the Blaugrana’s most consistent performers over recent months.
And yet, ahead of the opening of the summer transfer window, speculation surrounding Koundé’s future has nevertheless remained rampant.
This comes for a pair of reasons – Barcelona’s need for fresh funds, and the widespread interest in the signature of the former Sevilla standout.
Speaking in an interview with Le Parisien, as cited by Diario Sport, this weekend, it therefore came as little surprise when the subject of his place in Catalunya’s capital, and future beyond the summer, was put to Koundé himself once more.
And, in his response, the 25-year-old made use of the opportunity to confirm his pride at becoming a ‘locker room leader’ at Barca:
“I am one of Barça’s key players, one of the leaders of the locker room and, above all, I am a reliable player. That is perhaps one of the things I am most proud of.”
