How Xavi intends to ‘punish’ Barcelona stars for Girona defeat

An insight into the ongoing fallout at Barcelona, owing to the club’s latest damaging defeat, has been forthcoming on Sunday.

Barca, of course, marked their return to action on Saturday evening.

In a crunch clash in the battle for 2nd in the La Liga table, Xavi’s troops made the short trip to the Estadi Montilivi, for a meeting with Catalan neighbours Girona.

With 45 minutes on the clock, the Blaugrana found themselves in a good position, a goal to the good and looking in control.

A 2nd-half collapse, however, ultimately culminated in Girona racking up three goals without reply, to guide Míchel’s side clear of Barcelona in the table.

Xavi, for his part, appeared utterly perplexed in his post-match press conference, highlighting individual mistakes as having cost his side dear once again.

In turn, it should come as little surprise to hear of the Spanish tactician readying something of a punishment for his players.

As per a report from Javier Miguel of Diario AS, Xavi had made it known to his squad that, in the case of securing a positive result on Saturday, they would be afforded two-and-a-half days of rest, away from the club’s training ground.

This comes with the Catalan giants not due to take to the pitch again until Monday, May 13th.

Their eventual defeat, however, has since seen Barca’s headmaster backtrack, cancelling the planned mini vacation, with Tuesday now set to mark the sole day of rest for Xavi’s players.
