The brass at Barcelona could yet be afforded a timely transfer market boost by way of La Liga rivals Villarreal.
That’s according to transfer insider Matteo Moretto of Relevo, who has revealed that the Yellow Submarine are expressing a keen interest in an out-of-favour member of Barca’s defensive ranks.
The player in question? Clément Lenglet.
Lenglet has for his part been a prominent figure in Barcelona’s pre-season schedule to date, largely impressing new head coach Hansi Flick on the back of his loan stint in England with Aston Villa.
Owing chiefly to his exorbitant wages, however, the widespread understanding is that Barcelona still intend to move the Frenchman on this summer.
And, amidst struggles towards as much thus far, the Blaugrana could yet be afforded a reprieve courtesy of fellow La Liga outfit Villarreal.
As per a report from the aforementioned Matteo Moretto:
‘Villarreal have shown a strong interest in hiring the Barcelona player. Given the latest departure of Jorge Cuenca for Fulham, the Groguet team needs to strengthen its defensive zone for next season.
‘And Lenglet’s main supporter is Villarreal manager Marcelino García.’
