An insight into the potential knock-on effect of the serious injury suffered by Real Madrid star Dani Carvajal on Saturday night has today been forthcoming online.
Stopper Carvajal has of course seen his name take its place centre stage in the headlines in Spain’s capital across the day to date.
This comes after confirmation of the extent of the injury suffered by the 32-year-old en route to Real Madrid’s 2-0 La Liga downing of Villarreal was provided.
As per a statement across Real Madrid’s website and social media platforms:
‘Following tests carried out on Dani Carvajal by the Real Madrid Medical Services, the player has been diagnosed with a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament, a ruptured external collateral ligament and a ruptured popliteus tendon in his right leg.’
So, what does this mean for the plans of the powers that be at the Santiago Bernabéu moving forward?
As per a report from Marca, it is not at all out of the question that Real Madrid’s search for a long-term replacement for Carvajal will be moved forward to the January window.
And, should as much prove to be the case, one name in particular stands out as the frontrunner to reinforce Carlo Ancelotti’s squad.
The player in question comes in the form of Trent Alexander-Arnold.
England international Alexander-Arnold is due to see his contract with long-time club Liverpool expire next summer.
Real Madrid, in turn, were until now keeping a close eye on the situation of the defender, with a view to a potential free agent swoop.
Now, though, it would appear that the La Liga champions’ move for Alexander-Arnold could be fast-tracked, by way of a proposal for his services during the January window.
