How Real Madrid reacted to news of Brahim Díaz choosing Spain over Morocco

An insight into the reaction of the powers that be at La Liga giants Real Madrid to news of Brahim Díaz’s decision to represent Morocco at international level has come to the fore online.

The name of midfielder Brahim has of course taken its place front and centre in the media headlines in Spain in the early hours of Monday.

This comes after word was forthcoming that the 24-year-old has come to a definitive decision on his future on the international stage.

Recent speculation had seen it widely claimed that Brahim was at the heart of something of a tug-of-war, between the respective football federations in Spain, and the aforementioned Morocco.

As much comes with the former AC Milan man eligible to represent the former through his parents, and latter through his paternal grandmother.

Amid a fine individual campaign to date, the understanding was that Spain boss Luis de la Fuente was giving serious consideration to calling up Brahim, with a view to La Roja’s upcoming friendly meetings with Colombia and Brazil.

It therefore came as something of a surprise when, late on Sunday night, it was revealed that the diminutive midfielder has instead chosen to represent Morocco.

And, as alluded to above, in the hours since, an insight into how news of Brahim’s call has been received with his employers at club level has been provided.

The info comes courtesy of the reliable Guillermo Rai of The Athletic, who has revealed that Real Madrid consider the RFEF (Spanish Football Federation) as having made a ‘mistake’, in allowing a player of such quality to slip through their fingers.

Brahim, for his part, is said to have pledged his allegiance to the nation to have ‘shown him the most affection’, after Luis de la Fuente and his La Roja staff failed to make clear to the Málaga native his importance in their plans.
