Karim Benzema is the 2022 Ballon d’Or winner. Many players have different clauses in their contracts by which their clubs reward them for achieving certain objectives, such as winning an award like the Ballon d’Or, but the Ballon d’Or itself doesn’t offer any prize money.
Benzema will present the Ballon d’Or to the Santiago Bernabéu on Saturday. According to AS, the bonus Benzema will receive for winning the Ballon d’Or is in the region of €1m. The details of the Frenchman’s contract are often a mystery but winning the trophy also looks likely to mean that the French striker will sign a deal with Real Madrid for one more season, until June 2024. He is now the second top scorer in the club’s history and the sixth player with the most appearances for Madrid.
The France Football jury has crowned Benzema after a season in which he guided Real Madrid to La Liga number 35 and the club’s 14th Champions League. The Madrid No.9 scored 44 goals in La Liga (27), Spanish Super Cup (2) and the Champions League (15).
