An insight into the financial details of La Liga champions Barcelona’s imminent sale of youngster Álvaro Cortés has come to the fore online. This comes as the defender prepares to bring a permanent close to his stint in Blaugrana colours.
The name of stopper Cortés has emerged as an altogether prominent one in the media chatter in Catalunya’s capital across the week to date.
After word was forthcoming that the Barcelona brass have made the call to seek out fresh blood at the back ahead of the close of the transfer window, the young Spaniard quickly made known his intention to move on in search of senior football.
From here, a frontrunner swiftly emerged in the race for Cortés’ services, in the form of Belgian outfit Royal Antwerp. After promising the 21-year-old the kind of prominence which he is seeking this coming season, Antwerp in turn tied up an agreement with Cortés and his entourage.
And as alluded to above, on Friday, the details of the accord reached with Barcelona over the terms of the transfer have been revealed.
As per a report from journalist Juli Claramunt of Jijantes:
‘Álvaro Cortés leaves a little more than €3M in the club’s coffers. The centre-back leaves Barça transferred to Antwerp.’
