Barcelona have just unveiled their latest signing, Ilkay Gündogan. The German midfielder will turn 33 at the start of next season, but he is playing the best football of his career and is certain to improve Barcelona.
He can play anywhere across the midfield, in a midfield three, a double pivot or even as an attacking midfielder. His intelligence is one of his best traits, knowing when to make a late run into the box and put away a chance, as he did many times at Manchester City. He scored 29 goals in his last three seasons of Premier League football, after only scoring two goals in the 2019-20 season.
His all-round game has developed and improved a huge amount in the last three years. He has become a more dependable player, and for Barcelona, his experience will be key.
Having played under Pep Guardiola for seven years, and getting his hands on the Champions League trophy as part of a treble-winning season, Gündogan is used to success. His know-how will be crucial, especially as Barcelona will try and make their mark in the Champions League next season.
