In recent weeks, all signs pointed to Ronald Araújo leaving Barcelona, with Juventus being touted as the defender’s destination for his move.
All that changed today though, as reports have emerged indicating that the Uruguayan is now set to stay at the club thanks to convincing from his manager, teammates and Deco, the sporting director.
How has this change happened? Araújo looked set to leave before today, so what has happened that has caused him to change his mind?
It all seems down to what has happened following Barça’s Super Cup victory over Real Madrid when his teammates were very publically urging the crowd to show him some support and urge him to stay.
The 25-year-old has also been shown that his manager has confidence in him, especially given the current absence of teammate Iñigo Martinez.
The club has also reportedly agreed to a financial improvement to his salary when they sit down to talks to renew, as per COPE, so that can’t have hurt either.
It makes you wonder whether the move to Juventus was ever really going to happen or if it was just being used as a bargaining chip to get a better deal.
