‘He could play’ – Vinícius Jr. injury update after late scratch from Real Madrid XI to face Atlético

Confirmation of the nature of the fitness problem picked up by Real Madrid star Vinícius Jr. has come to the fore late on Sunday night.

The name of wide-man Vinícius has of course taken its place front and centre in the headlines in Spain’s capital this evening.

This comes after the Brazilian was a last-minute scratch from Real Madrid’s starting XI to face arch rivals Atlético, in the latest edition of the Madrid Derby.

Mere minutes before kick-off at the Santiago Bernabéu, Vinícius was spotted pulling out of the hosts’ warm-up.

From here, confirmation was forthcoming that the 23-year-old had been pulled from Carlo Ancelotti’s starting XI as a result, with Brahim Díaz introduced in his place.

So, what exactly is Vinícius dealing with?

As per a report from the reliable Mario Cortegana of The Athletic, the explosive attacker is suffering with a ‘cervical problem’.

He has since taken a dose of medication, with it even suggested that, should as much prove effective, Vinícius could feature off the bench later in proceedings.
