Hansi Flick’s Barcelona set to turn to the Netherlands for midfield reinforcement

The recent departure of İlkay Gündoğan as well as missing out on several targets during the summer has meant that Hansi Flick’s Barcelona now have a midfielder at the top of their priorities for upcoming windows.

And if Marca are to be believed, the Catalan side could turn to the Dutch Eredivisie for their next midfield signing, Specifically towards PSV Eindhoven.

The player in question is 27-year-old Jerdy Schouten, who has been on the books at PSV since 2023 and is just into his second season at the club.

Schouten could potentially be the man to finally replace the void that was left by Sergio Busquets two seasons ago, as Barca finally look to get a replacement pivot.

The Dutch international would cost the club somewhere in the region of €25 million, putting him at a more budget-friendly price than other options such as Joshua Kimmich.

However, the 27-year-old has been used as a wing-back in recent times, meaning he may be starting to transition away from his role as a defensive midfielder.

Keep an eye on this one come January as Barcelona start to wade back into the depths of the transfer window.
