Hansi Flick views Barcelona youth talent as Lamine Yamal ‘alternative’

Barcelona head coach Hansi Flick considers a member of the youth setup in Catalunya’s capital as a future alternative to Lamine Yamal in his first-team ranks.

That’s according to Diario Sport, who point towards Toni Fernández as the player in question.

Toni, for his part, has been a regular in first-team training across the early weeks of the new campaign.

After thoroughly impressing new boss Hansi Flick and his staff with his performance in pre-season, the gifted attacker, at just 16, has been afforded an extended chance to prove his talents at senior level.

The Spaniard was even afforded a place on the Blaugrana bench for five of the club’s fixtures, albeit without yet managing his senior bow.

If the latest word stemming from the media on Tuesday is anything to go by, though, then as much should not be long in arriving.

As per a report from Sport:

‘Toni can play inside and as a midfielder but where Flick sees him right now is as a false right winger.’

For this reason, Toni is considered an ‘alternative’ to Lamine Yamal, who, upon his return from injury, will be closely watched by Hansi Flick and co. with a view to a first-ever first-team appearance.
