Barcelona head coach Hansi Flick has revealed his take that Gavi, based on current form, looks a safe bet to be included in Spain’s squad for the 2026 World Cup.
Youngster Gavi is for his part of course continuing to work himself back into top form at present.
After almost a year on the sidelines with a ruptured ACL, the 20-year-old has spent the last couple of months rotating in and out of Barcelona’s XI.
On Saturday evening, Gavi was afforded his latest chance to impress, by way of a starting berth in the Blaugrana’s La Liga meeting with Real Betis.
And the midfielder went on to conjure up arguably his finest performance since returning to competitive football.
Gavi shone on both sides of the ball across the 90 minutes, notching his side’s only goal, linking up play in impressive fashion, and time and again recovering possession through hard work and bite in the tackle.
Fresh off a Man of the Match display, boss Hansi Flick, in turn, was keen to reserve some special praise for his engine room starlet.
Barca’s headmaster began:
“Gavi had a big injury, but now he’s back. He’s getting better and better every week. I have no doubt that we are yet to see his best. We are helping him to elevate his game. He had a great match and you can see that he has improved a lot. He seems very confident on the ball, and I like it a lot.”
From here, Flick went on to conclude that:
“I think Gavi will play in the World Cup with Spain next year.”
