Hansi Flick thinks he has Barcelona’s Julián Alvarez alternative ‘at home’

Barcelona head coach Hansi Flick is convinced that the club’s new first-choice centre-forward already exists in his squad, in the form of Raphinha. That’s according to Diario Sport, who have this weekend provided an insight into the situation.

The board at the Spotify Camp Nou have of course spent the summer to date working on all fronts to secure the signing of a new central striker. Following the departures of both Robert Lewandowski and Ferran Torres, the addition was in fact considered something of a priority for Deco and co.

Mere days out from the window slamming shut, however, Barca have still not landed their man. First-choice target Julián Alvarez is considered more out of reach than ever, with alternative options having not fully convinced the Blaugrana.

And yet, Hansi Flick and his staff, it would appear, are not at all worried… As per a report from Sport:

‘Julián Álvarez’s plan B was always at home and Hansi Flick had been working on Raphinha’s new role for some time.’

Winger Raphinha has of course featured in a new central position in each of Barcelona’s first two La Liga fixtures of the new campaign. And his performances have only served in backing the belief of the coaching staff at the Ciutat Esportiva that the Brazilian is ready to take up the mantle on a full-time basis.

Raphinha has already racked up three goals and an assist from his striker’s spot, set to be entrusted with the role permanently over the weeks and months ahead as a result.
