Barcelona head coach Hansi Flick has this week spoken out on the lack of minutes afforded to defender Alejandro Balde across the season to date.
Stopper Balde is for his part fresh off what has been a hugely challenging opening to the new campaign in Catalunya’s capital.
Sitting behind both Xavi Espart and João Cancelo in the left-back pecking order in Barcelona’s squad, the 22-year-old has been afforded a paltry total of 12 minutes of playing time spread across a single appearance.
Once considered one of the most promising young full-backs in world football, Balde’s situation will therefore no doubt be a difficult one to navigate for the player himself.
Speaking during an appearance in front of the media on Friday, the aforementioned Hansi Flick was therefore drawn on the challenge facing his out-of-favour defender at present.
And Barca’s headmaster went on to explain:
“The situation isn’t easy for Balde right now, and I’m fully aware of that. But he’s training really well, and that’s the first thing he needs to do.
“This situation isn’t ideal for Balde, but he’s working with great professionalism.”
