Hansi Flick speaks out on Ansu Fati’s struggles

Barcelona head coach Hansi Flick has on Tuesday opened up on the difficult stretch of his career in which Ansu Fati currently finds himself.

Wide-man Ansu has of course seen his name return to the forefront of the headlines once more over recent days.

Unfortunately for the 22-year-old, though, as much comes for altogether less than positive reasons.

Despite having now recovered full fitness, Ansu was not even called up by Barcelona boss Hansi Flick for either of the club’s fixtures at the Spanish Super Cup.

16-year-old Toni Fernández was even preferred to the attacker for last week’s semi-final meeting with Athletic Club.

Speaking to the media ahead of his side’s Copa del Rey clash with Real Betis on Wednesday, it therefore came as little surprise when Ansu’s name was quickly put to manager Flick.

And the German tactician, in his response, went on to explain:

“I am very happy with all the players. As for Ansu, after his injuries, he hasn’t been able to show his 100%. It’s sad. I was convinced he would be at his best. I am honest with my players. He needs to work like everyone else.”
