Hansi Flick reveals Barcelona star was taken off vs Real Sociedad due to ‘discomfort’

Barcelona head coach Hansi Flick has provided an insight into his decision to haul Ronald Araújo off early during the club’s meeting with Real Sociedad.

Araújo, for his part, is fresh off an altogether productive outing on Sunday evening.

Afforded a starting berth in Barcelona’s La Liga meeting with the aforementioned Sociedad, the Uruguayan notched both a goal and an assist, en route to a 4-0 triumph.

As alluded to above, though, this did not stop boss Hansi Flick from hooking Araújo from the action in Catalunya’s capital prematurely.

The 25-year-old was replaced by youngster Héctor Fort 15 minutes from time.

And Araújo’s headmaster has since provided an explanation for precisely why.

Speaking to the media on the back of the full-time whistle at Montjuïc, Hansi Flick admitted that his defensive star was dealing with ‘discomfort’ whilst on the pitch:

“We wanted Araújo to play 90 minutes, but we had to sub him out because he had some discomfort.”
