Barcelona head coach Hansi Flick remains a firm believer in the talents of an under-fire member of his midfield ranks.
That’s according to Diario Sport, who point towards Frenkie de Jong as the player in question.
The name of midfielder De Jong has of course taken its place front and centre in the headlines in Catalunya’s capital for several weeks now.
This comes amid mounting criticism being aimed in the direction of the Dutchman, for the level of his performances.
Late last month against Brest, in fact, De Jong was widely whistled and jeered by members of the Barcelona fanbase.
As much, added to all of his contract situation, high wages, competition for places and long-term failure to establish himself as a leader in Barcelona’s midfield, have given rise to rumours that the 27-year-old is being lined up for a sale next summer.
One individual, however, who remains against such a plan of action comes in the form of Hansi Flick.
As per a report from Diario Sport:
‘Hansi Flick loves Frenkie de Jong, he is in love with him. The German coach believes that, due to his qualities, the Dutchman fits like a glove in his footballing proposal.’
For this reason, Barcelona’s headmaster is in favour of De Jong staying put in his squad through next summer and, potentially, beyond.
