Hansi Flick explains Wojciech Szczęsny’s absence from Barcelona squad vs Alavés

Barcelona head coach Hansi Flick has provided an explanation for the absence of new signing Wojciech Szczęsny from the club’s squad to face Deportivo Alavés.

And it will come as little surprise to hear that as much comes owing to a simple lack of match sharpness on Szczęsny’s part.

The Pole penned terms with Barcelona earlier this week, brought in as a free agent owing to the long-term injury suffered by Marc-André ter Stegen.

Prior to as much, however, Szczęsny had technically been retired, having come to the decision not to continue his playing days after the mutual termination of his contract with Juventus.

The 34-year-old, in turn, did not partake in any kind of pre-season training schedule.

Drawn on Szczęsny’s omission from his matchday squad to take on Alavés on Sunday afternoon, the aforementioned Hansi Flick, as cited by Mundo Deportivo, therefore explained:

“Szczesny has been out for three months now and we have to see him in training.”
