Hansi Flick confirms interest as Barcelona provide update on managerial search

An update on the ongoing efforts of the powers that be at Barcelona to reinforce the club’s bench with a view to next season has been provided this afternoon.

The info comes by way of Blaugrana sporting director Deco, who, during an interview with La Vanguardia (as cited by Fabrizio Romano) on Monday, was inevitably asked for the latest on the club’s search for a replacement for the outbound Xavi.

The Portuguese, though, was not shy in admitting that, as of yet, he and his colleagues are yet to speak directly to any tacticians:

“We didn’t speak to any other manager yet,” he began.

“It has to be someone who wants to follow our working plan, playing good football and with ambition. I won’t speak about any other manager now.”

Pressed specifically on alleged interest in soon-to-be former Liverpool boss Jürgen Klopp, Deco continued:

“Klopp is a top coach, but I don’t think this is the moment to speak about it. We have many options; the future head coach will be discussed later.”

Whilst Deco moves to play down links to one German headmaster, however, another appears to have set his sights firmly on the managerial post in Catalunya’s capital.

The man in question? Hansi Flick.

As revealed by German football insider Christian Falk, former Bayern Munich coach Flick ‘is already learning Spanish’.

This comes amid confirmation that the out-of-work 58-year-old is keen for an imminent return to management, with the Barcelona job one which ‘appeals’ to him in a major way:
