Hansi Flick claims Barcelona star ‘took a step in the right direction’ vs Real Betis

Barcelona head coach Hansi Flick has revealed his take that midfielder Frenkie de Jong took a step forward by way of his performance in the club’s meeting with Real Betis.

Barca were of course back in action on Wednesday night, welcoming Manuel Pellegrini’s Betis to Catalunya’s capital for a Copa del Rey clash.

When all was said and done, the Blaugrana cruised to the right side of a 5-1 result, booking their spot in the competition’s quarter-finals in the process.

The aforementioned Frenkie de Jong was for his part afforded a rare start in the clash, manning the base of the hosts’ midfield.

And evidently of the opinion that the Dutchman did an impressive job of as much is manager Hansi Flick.

Drawn on the performance put forth by De Jong against Real Betis post-match, Barcelona’s headmaster went on to explain:

“I’m happy that De Jong played well today. It’s a step in the right direction for him.”
